You can pay your personal tax by online or telephone banking, DD, debit or corporate credit card, at your bank or by cheque.
HMRC are trying to discourage people paying by cheque. It’s more work for them and cheques can get lost in the post.
To pay by online banking, you will need the following details:
HMRC Cumbernauld – Sort code 08 32 10, Account number 1200 1039
HMRC Shipley – Sort code 08 32 10, Account number 1200 1020
Reference – This is your UTR followed by a ‘K’. Your UTR is always a 10-digit number. Example – 1234567890K.
How do you know if you should pay Cumbernauld or Shipley? – If you receive a payslip from HMRC, it will tell you who to pay. If you do not receive a payslip, use Cumbernauld.
Once you have set up the above details in your online banking system, you will never need to change them. The reference will never change.
